About Tarragona

In the year In 218 BC the Roman army led by Gnaeus Cornelius Scipio founded Tarraco (Tarragona) as the main winter base for the Roman troops and navy in Hispania (Spain). The favourable geographic conditions of the southern lands, its mild climate, and the tranquillity of its waters were factors that led Scipio to select Tarraco as the capital city of the great province Tarraconensis.

Over 2,000 years later, Tarragona, which lies to the south of Barcelona, offers visitors a warm and inviting city, rich with history, but always looking toward the future.
